2009 Trans Canada Highway at Stoney Flats Road, Pritchard
The design of the interchange to replace this intersection east of Kamloops at Pritchard was complicated by the store that services highway and local traffic. There is also a rail crossing on the side road. The designers needed to better understand the travel patterns of local residents, the volume of through traffic stopping at the store and queue lengths generated at the rail crossing. We combined a manual and video count to cover the movements at the intersection and store accesses.
2009 Nicola Interchange, Pedestrian count
This structure carries Hwy 5A over the Coquihalla Hwy 5 on the north side of Merritt. There is a population base and highway commercial development on the west side of HWY 5 with a new commercial development on the east side of the highway. Although there are painted shoulders across the structure, there are no sidewalks or physical separation between vehicles and pedestrians. The VCU was an ideal solution to count pedestrian trips at various times of day and night as well as days of the week.

In addition to 2 video intersection counts on Hwy3 we conducted a 24 hour hose count on the bridge and a 4 hour manual pedestrian count.
